Strong Meetings

April 28th, 2008

May 2008 Chairman’s Report
Dodie Hawkins
Chairman of the Board

Excerpt from this report

Strong Meetings

‘This topic is a personal concern for me which I want to call to your attention. While our Public Awareness Campaign can be successful in spreading awareness of OA as a solution to the problem of compulsive eating, it is up to the individual groups to have strong, welcoming meetings for the newcomer.  There is literature available to help meetings achieve this goal as well as Region trustees who are available for assistance and support.  Meetings that focus on the 12 Steps and 12 Traditions give newcomers a clear OA message and keep them coming back.  Please assess your local meetings with the eyes of a newcomer.  Ask yourself, “Would I come back?”  If your answer is yes, good for your meeting.  If not, what actions need to be taken to insure that the newcomer leaves with a firm commitment to return and begin the road to recovery.”

May 2008 Treasurer’s Report
Bob Fisher Treasurer

Sales of literature made up 58.27% of our total revenue.  Contributions made up approximately 25.12%.  This is an improvement over 2006 when sales of literature made up 67.05% and contributions made up 23.21%.

March Mission to Mississippi

January 8th, 2008

Hello everyone,

Hope you had a wonderful beginning to this new year.  Great to be abstinent!!!!

I’m forwarding Claudia’s report about email sponsorship in December.  I signed myself as an email sponsor this summer with WSO and did not have any response until Dec 31 when two people contacted me about sponsor.  The new year usually bring out the desire to change and impove so hopefully we will ssee more attendance at our meetings.

   ….MARCH MISSION TO MISSISSISPPI….

How is everyone doing collecting funds?  I spoke with Lesa (from Central Mississippi IG  & 12th Step W/I committee), this weekend and so far there are 12 people from the area who have requested funding to attend the recovery convention.  She thinks there could be as many as 20.  This is really Twelfth Step Within at work!  Please if you want your collection to send Mississippian to the March SOAR 8, get your funds to Karen C. the treasurer for SOAR 8, by February 1 so that plans can be made.

Please put for March Mission to Mississippi in the Memo along with your group or Intergroup number.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you with your assignment  or your abstinence.  Don’t eat no matter what.  Action is the Magic word.

IDEA Day

August 20th, 2007

Hi OA’ers,
If anyone would like to plan an Idea Day event for Nov. 18th in Pinellas County, please let me know and I will put you in touch with other liked minded OA’s.

What is IDEA Day?

International Day Experiencing Abstinence (IDEA) takes place annually on the third Saturday of November. It was established to encourage still-suffering members to experience abstinence – even if only for one day. OA groups and service bodies worldwide have special events addressing questions related to abstinence. For abstinent members, it is a time to share gratitude with others.

Intergroups and groups might host a special meeting or marathon on relapse and recovery; members try to contact newcomers or members they haven’t seen in a while; abstinent members may sponsor someone struggling to maintain abstinence.

Working Meeting

August 20th, 2007

All OA’s are welcome to attend Working Meetings at about 11 am after the Saturday, 9:30am ,Pinellas Park Library OA meeting.  These meetings are held the first Sat. of each month EXCEPT in Sept.   The The August Working Meeting was fabulous. We have come up with a long, long list of possible ways and means of reaching compulsive overeaters in and out of the program, i.e., “carrying the message”, the primary goal. If you want to help carry out any of these ideas, please contact me, Donna D, 526-4082, and I will refer you to the person on the list to meet your interests.

Donna, Compulsive Overeater
Chair: Pinellas Traditions Intergroup, PTI

P.S. The September Working meeting will be the 2nd Sat at about 11AM at the Pinellas Park Library after the regular OA meeting. We bring our own lunches or eat after the meeting like we did in Aug. It was fun and fellowship.  We will meet either at the library or my house and you may contact me by email or phone for directions.
